in memoriam
back
Stephen - we were saddened
to see the devastation at Atocha - senseless destruction of lives.
We hope you are both well, and we send you our fond regards.

Greetings from Morris,
Illinois
You probably do not
remember me but last year, towards the end of February, my granddaughter
and I were scheduled to meet up with you for a private tour on our last
evening in Madrid. Regretfully, something came up and we had to cancel.
How I wish we had been able to do so. My reasons for this E-mail is to
offer my condolences to you and your adopted country on the dreadful
atrocity that was visited upon your city.
We had ridden the train
into the Atocha station and just can't imagine the horror of what
happened. Spain is a lovely country and its people are tremendous.
Again, my sympathies and I hope to return someday.

Dear Stephen,
I was so glad to hear that
Connie and you are unharmed. We were on vacation down near the Panama
Canal and only limited access to CNN. Most of my friends with us had met
you and we were all concerned.
Here we are getting
reports that ETA or Al Quiada is responsible.
A big hug of friendship
and love to Connie and you.

Hi Stephen,
I know it's been a long
time, and you may not even remember your little American friend who you
were so kind to those 4-5 yrs ago (you helped set me up in Nerja and
hosted me in Madrid), but I just heard about the attacks in Madrid and
wanted to reach out to you. I hope that you and yours are all OK -- I am
praying for you and for Spain. Know that there are a lot of people
thinking of you.
Best,
Tracie Hamersley

Hi Stephen - I awoke to
terrible news this morning about the train bombings in Madrid. I
hope you and Connie are well. My husband, daughter and son had the best
time with you about a year ago on a wine and tapas tour of Madrid, (a 2
hour tour that lasted about 5 hours), and I have been recommending you
to friends ever since. One such friend, Jan Kliger, will be
traveling to Madrid in a few weeks, so you should be hearing from her
soon. I haven't been on your website for a while, and it looks
very good. The changes you have made make a big difference.
Congratulations to you and Connie on your wedding! And they said
it would never happen! I guess my invitation got lost in the mail.
:-) Take care and we will see you the next time we come to Spain.

Dear Stephen, Connie, and
Isabel,
I am so sorry I have not
written you sooner. You having not heard from me until now does not mean
I have not thought of you during the past few months, but with the
tragic events of today, I found myself thinking even more of my visit to
Madrid in October and the kindness, openness, and hospitality that
endeared you all to me. I kept thinking of how close your apartment is
to the train station and if you are all right. I pray that you are
all safe and healthy.
If I took anything away
from the time we spent together, it is that we should all enjoy life and
live it to its fullest. With that in mind, I feel I can end with a
heartfelt congratulations on the wedding; a wish for a life full of
love and happiness for the three of you.
The best to you all,
Michael

My heart is breaking today
for you and for all those in Spain. Our prayers are for you, your loved
ones and all those souls gone too soon. Terrorism will never stop those
that love life and friendship. I thank you for all the help you have
given me and many others and I want you to know you and Spain are in our
hearts today. This will not stop us from our trip in April. I pray that
you and your loved ones are safe.

We were devastated to hear
of the terrible bombings today in Madrid. As members of the Wellington
Society, we feel like honorary citizens of your wonderful city, and our
heart goes out to all the victims and their loved ones. We hope that you
and yours are safe and sound.

Dear Chairman-
Henry and I have been
meaning to write and thank you for a fabulous time when we visited this
past October and went on your Bloody Madrid tour and to the bullfights.
The horrific event of the
bombings this week made us worry for the safety of you and Connie,
as well as the rest of the citizens of our favorite Spanish city. I hope
all is well with you both. What a senseless tragedy.
Your friends in peace,

I am in may car on my way
to work right now and just hearing about the tragedy (it is only 6:00 am
here). My first thoughts were of you and your lovely, so thank you for
easing my mind. I will let Kristen know as well. I hope you guys did not
lose anyone you know.

Supping a beer or two in
the Madrid's Neru Bar and watching Real vs Celta we were as ignorant as
you could be of Stephen and the Wellington Society. Anyway, when I
finally sent my lass to pay the bill (!) we found out a total stranger
had already settled it......Stephen! Turns out he'd walked into the bar
and being a lifelong Leeds United fan spotted the scarf straight away.
Only sorry we couldn't
stay or tag along for the tour (but thanks for the invite) and many
apologies for not buying a beer back. Keep the Leeds flag flying in
Madrid, Buy you one back in the Peacock if I see you at Elland Road?
Leeds Rule.
Hope all is OK after the
news today.
