NEW & OLD WEBSITES
Following the untimely death of the Society's editor, Ian Heavens, we have had to make a new web site. This can now be reached on www.wellsoc.org however our old website can still be seen on http://www.tardis.ed.ac.uk/~ian/welltours . Members wishing to have a photo added to the new web site should contact the Chairman@wellsoc.org 

NEW WALKS & SHORT DAY EXCURSIONS

The Wellington Society can now offer some new walking tours and short day excursions to its members;

The Royal town of Manzanares El Real, a 40 minute drive north of Madrid boasts one of the finest medieval castles in Castilla. The castle has recently been restored to its former glory and is now open to the public. Hanging tapestries, suits of armour, period furniture and a host of ghost stories (!) makes this a wonderful day's outing. We get to walk the battlements and even climb the towers! Lunch is in a nearby traditional restaurant which serves up delicious roasts, salads & local wines.

San Isidro died in 1172, became the patron saint of the Spanish capital in the 17th century and is celebrated each year on 15 May. Our guided tour includes a visit to his house, the well where he preformed a miracle (thereby saving his small son's life) and on to the church where his silver lined coffin rests at the high-alter. A short walk away is the Plaza Mayor where we get to descend to the cellars where the unfortunate heretics were herded to await the burnings above! Lots of anecdotes on the Inquisition before we retire to a local tavern for lunch.

The bullfight season is now upon us here in españa and the Society can arrange for tickets for its members. We also have a guided tour of the bullfight museum and bull-ring (mornings only). Because of great demand we are now giving tapas tours of the famous bullfight taverns in Old Madrid.

SEVILLA WALKING TOURS
This year the Society has started working closely with MAGICAL SPAIN which is based in Sevilla. Their leading light & friend of our own Chairman, Dan O'Berine who gives most of the walking tours will give our card carrying members a 10% discount so make use of your cards!
