Spring 2003

THE LONDON TOUR
The Society's tour of London was an absolute success (what else would
Members expect with the Chairman being the guide!). One of the highlights
was the visit to Number One, London, once the home to the First Duke of
Wellington, now a magnificent museum with superb paintings and elegant
furniture adorning the rooms. The present Duke, our President, still has
the top floor as his private residence but alas was not at home to greet
us that day. Our traditional English meal in the Cheshire Cheese (rebuilt
in 1667!) was a delight as was the shopping in the famous food department
at Fortnum & Mason store on Picadilly.
We are planning three more four day trips to London for 2004

WINE TOURS
After much travelling and wine tasting the Society will be offering wine
tours to both the Rioja and Duero regions of Spain starting this
summer. Connie will lead the tour with the Chairman adding extra interest
when we stop off for refreshments at medieval castilian castles on the
way.

THE SOCIETY DONATIONS
The Society has made donations to four British military museums. The
artifacts given are musket balls, shot, shell and even buckles worn by the
soldiers who followed the drum in Wellington's Army during the Peninsular
War, 1808 - 1814. Letters of thanks from the Curators of the museums will
be posted on our web site later this year.

THE BULLFIGHT SEASON OPENS!
For members wishing to get excellent tickets, enjoy wine from the wine skin
and have first class play by play during the fight, then please see our
CORRIDA  section on the web site. The first and biggest fight is on 15th
of May, San Isidro, the Patron Saint of Madrid.
