Spring
2004
In the early Spring, the Wellington Society was
again much sought out by the international press. Everything Spain, a
glossy & informative British colour magazine dedicated five whole pages to
our work including Connie's developing wine tours throughout Spain. Then
The Times of London called to test our knowledge and give our thoughts on
the Battle of Waterloo (Wellington's great victory over Napoleon in 1815).
The Times half page on the battlefield today was full of quotes from our
Chairman which of course he loved!
The Guardian of Manchester, followed up by asking
in its columns, 'Who is Stephen Drake-Jones?' They were good enough to
publish our letter of reply in full, just three days later. The Spanish
national daily, El Pais, wisely decided to devote their entire back page
to the Society's activities including our Peninsular War battlefield
visits, walking tours, day excursions, Hemingway and wine tasting tours.
(even we, the backroom staff are feeling rather chuffed at all this press
attention!). Members wishing to have copies of all the press releases
should email us directly giving a home address where we can send them.
Following the Society's generous donations to
Spanish & British Military Museums of artifacts dating from the Peninsular
War (1808-1814) we shall soon be downloading all the official letters
thanking us for our efforts. |
