THE GUIDE POST magazine which has been a great
favourite with the English speaking community in Madrid for over thirty
years could not resist doing a double page feature of the Wellington
Society. It includes four delightful color photos to enhance the excellent
article by Anita Hass (one of the very few journalists to get the history
dates right!) besides the Chairman's activities there is two columns on
Connie Drake-Jones's wine tours throughout central Spain. More details can
be found on the Society's web site about how popular her tours are
becoming.
OUR PLAY BY PLAY at Ventas bullring during the
height of the bullfighting season (mid may until first week of July) has
been a great success with Members signing up almost every Sunday and mid
week to attend the fights and learn how to use the Chairman's wine-skin!
We will be featuring photos of many happy aficionados holding their hard
to obtain tickets in the famous Manolete Bar prior to whizzing off in
private transport to Ventas.
SEGOVIA was our number one excursion for Members
throughout the summer months. Up in the mountains it was cooler than
Toledo and now that the old JEWISH QUARTER has been carefully restored it
has added an extra to our walking tour. The restoration work on the
cathedral has also been completed after more than a year closed to the
public. Its doors are once again opened.
MILITARY MUSEUMS in both Spain & Britain will
again be receiving donations from the Society's collection of military
artifacts unearthed on the battle sites of the Peninsular War. Details
will appear in our Fall Newsletter. We are also going to add, after
popular demand from many Members, more titles of books on Wellington in
Spain & Portugal in our Recommended Reading. |
