Day Trips With The Wellington Society of Madrid

As a college professor at Madrid Campus for American study abroad students I took them to El Escorial, built under the direction of the Hapsburg Philip II. It was on one of these tours that I met a guide who offered private tours for tourists. I was so impressed with both his knowledge and presentation in English that I convinced my college to hire him on future visits.

What our members have on this tour therefore is the Chairman and my friend as your very

own guides within the El Escorial. Our combined tour takes three hours including a visit down to the Pantheons where the Hapsburg and Bourbon kings and queens were laid to rest. There will be time to browse at the book & gift shop before lunch at a very elegant Edwardian restaurant.

We also arrange for those interested, a visit to the nearby VALLEY OF THE FALLEN, where Generalisimo Francisco Franco is buried. We explain aspects of the Spanish Civil War and what life was like under Franco’s dictatorship (our Chairman actually lived in Madrid the last year of Franco’s life!).
