Day Trips With The Wellington Society of Madrid

For castle lovers this is the tour for you! For years the castle at Manzanares El Real (40 minute bus ride from Madrid) lay a sad ruin and reminder of its glory times centuries past. Now, after careful restoration work the province of Madrid can again boast a superb example of medieval Castile. The interior has the suits of

armor, hanging tapestries, draped curtains, period furniture and all the trappings of the age of chivalry. We get to walk the battlements, climb the tower and search for the number of ghosts that simply refuse to leave.

In good weather we arrange to have a picnic lunch at one of the tables in the small park with a back drop of the castle walls. We can, however always go to the local restaurant with log fire, beams and Castilian cuisine.
