Our new city bus ride takes just an hour passing
through changing countryside as we head to this famous city in the
mountains. After our morning coffee break we walk round the corner to
stand by the great Roman Aqueduct built 2,000 years ago. From here we
start our carefully planned walking tour past Romanesque churches,
medieval buildings until we come to the statue of Segovia’s hero, Juan
Bravo. Oh!

many stirring stories to be told about him. We then enter the little known
Jewish Quarter and, if open, a visit to the perfectly preserved (although
no longer used) synagogue. We have a short break in the quiet gardens
behind the synagogue where there is an excellent view of its outside
architecture. This half of the walk ends in the Plaza Mayor and, after our
tour of the Cathedral and the church where Isabel the Catholic was
proclaimed Queen of Castile , we go for lunch at a very special friend’s
restaurant where we have a table booked in his cave!
Next on our itinerary is the
Alcazar for tales of gallant knights, fair maidens and a ghost |

story . For those willing to climb the tower steps there is time to go and
view this marvelous city from atop the Alcazar. Also we have time for
shopping in the classy gift shop.
Back in the Plaza we have
refreshment at one of the outside cafes before walking over to the aqueduct,
this time to view it from above. |
